Made it through the weekend. This was my first time vending at a Con and it wasn’t quite what I had hoped. I met a lot of cool people, got to see some fun costumes and sold a few things. There were some logistical issues at the Con that made me feel like that impacted things. There were a lot of grumpy people on Saturday due to park and line issues. As one person on FB commented that “Line Con was awesome! Even more lines than last year!”
Was it my best show? Not by far, but I did get some good responses which made me happy. I think one of the big differences is that at other shows I am often one of the only ones with geek friendly items and at the con it was Geek World so I had a lot of competition. The thing that I found most interesting is that I sold mainly magnets and very few prints. Given the responses in other venues I thought I would have sold a few more.
I try to go in to shows with reasonable expectations, but I did not make any where near to what I hopped. Nor did I win the Powerball which was disappointment. On the plus side it was not my worse show. Another positive is that I have a show in a couple weeks and I won’t have to make as much stuff for it as I feared.
This Saturday is my first big outdoor show of the season. I am in a bit of a panic because I am no where near ready. Friends laugh at me because I say something similar about every show, but this time I really mean it. I had a very lazy/sick winter and did not prep much stuff. In the next 3 days I have to be super productive and I am not sure I can pull it off. I generally work well under pressure, but this might be beyond me. If you want to see if I pull it off you can find me at the Berkley Art Bash…. either way it should be amusing.
Really excited for my next show at the Ann Arbor Art Center this weekend. Some of my favorite vendors will be there. Hip to Piece Square, Deid Goods, Sloe Gin Fizz, Lilac Pop, Marta England, Courtney Fischer, Green Daffodil. The show is Oct. 8th, 10 AM – 6 PM and Sunday, October 9th, 12 PM – 5 PM. Admission is $1 and it goes to help fund the Center.
Survived the Spring Edition of Art in the Park. It was a bit slower than I had hoped, but I think it was mainly because it was the first beautiful day we had had in a long time so people were doing yard work. As always I was really lucky to have so many awesome artists come and support the Senior Center. I have amazingly talented and gifted friends.
Not quite sure where the year has gone. I spent most of the Winter with the Plague and Spring trying to catch up on everything I didn’t get done in the first three months of the year. The other I had a scary realization that Art Fair is two months away. (YIKES!) This prompted me to request a schedule change at work. I am now working four 10 hr days, giving me Wednesday to be crafty. And maybe I will be able to write a little more consistently. Just maybe….
Three shows down four to go! I am not sure what I was thinking when I planned my holiday show schedule out, actually I probably wasn’t thinking at all. I am happy I decided not to go back to the Market for the rest of the year. If I hadn’t I probably would be hiding under my bed refusing to come out. Pacing has been important, I haven’t tried to be a machine and make 80 million things. It has been tempting, but sometimes you just have to walk away.
Tomorrow and Sunday is the Detroit Urban Craft Fair. I am so excited about this show! Not only is it a new show for me, but this year it is a 2 day show…. maybe they did that just for me? 🙂 Luckily my friend Verlaine is going to be there to help me man the booth. He has also helped me with my new photo block project. (I hope to have some pictures for you next week to show you how they look.)
Tonight I am finishing up some pocket mirrors and working on more photo notepads. First I need to organize the car so that I don’t have to worry about packing up at 6 am. The goal is to be as organized as possible so I am not digging through bags during the show. Wish me luck with that cause it isn’t my nature.
Things have gotten pretty crazy here in the land of Chicaloo. I survived the first of 7 holiday shows this past Saturday. It is one I actually help organize as a fundraiser for a local Senior Center. I definitely am a nervous host and was glad to see people had a good time.
Here is some of the stuff I bought for me. I can’t show the stuff I bought for others cause that would ruin the surprise.
Next up is the Ann Arbor Women Artist show this Saturday.
