Don’t go into the light

Don't go into the light

I have been struggling the last few weeks with finding my crafty mojo again. You can probably tell by my lack of blog posts that I haven’t been winning the battle. For years I have worked around 60+ hours a week which meant that any craftiness had to fit in my schedule. It actually worked well because I was forced to get stuff done. Now that I am down to 40 hours a week and have evenings and weekends free I find it is harder to get myself in to the craft room. I tend to be an all or nothing sort of girl.

Ideas are floating around in my head, but nothing that kicks my energy into high gear. Not quite sure what it will take, but I hope something clicks soon because I have a couple shows coming up. And Market starts in the not too distant future. Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting over a lack of creative mojo?

Abandoned

Empty

Saturday I went with my friend Gary to Detroit to see the Ice House and take some pictures. Unfortunately by the time we got there the house was not so icy. Just up the street we saw a house that was wide open… windows smashed and the door might have been gone. The whole house had been emptied, not even a sink remained. The next house we went in to looked as if people had been squatting there. There was some furniture and coats. And for some reason lots and lots of crates that 2 Liter pop bottles are kept in at the grocery store.

Our next stop was the old Brewer’s Recreation Center

Stripped

Again, the windows were all smashed and the place was completely open. One of the craziest finds was the pool. Either they hadn’t drained the water or it had filled up from rain running in because it was frozen solid.

The other thing that intrigued me the most was the ceramics room. It was filled with molds. A lot of molds.

Molds

This room was also interesting. The tile and the glass crunching underfoot. I kept feeling like the whole thing was going to fall apart.

Stairwell

A friend and went to Detroit today to take photos of the Ice House. Unfortunately it was not being kept up and a lot of the ice was melted. We wandered around a bit and took some photos in abandoned houses and buildings. The best was the old Brewer Recreation Center.

Here is one of the photos

I will post more tomorrow…

Creepy art

I have been a little quiet blog wise the last week or so, but I have worked on stuff, just nothing finished. Until last night when I made the first of what I think will be many in a new series of notebooks.

Erase

This is made of old language flash cards. I laminated the cover and used book binder rings to hold it together. I was thinking of making them spiral bound, but my binder doesn’t like small papers. I have a whole box of these cards and they are wonderful! Creepy, but wonderful.

Exhaustion

This past couple of weeks have really done me in. It isn’t that I am busier than normal, but that years of not stopping to take a break have caught up with me. On top of the fact that my new meds most definitely cause drowsiness… there is no “may” about it. Also, I did my first show of the new year and while fun, it takes a lot out of me. That being the case I took a few days off from my collage challenge. Tonight I felt up to spending a little time in the craft room.

title?

I am hoping for a snow day Wednesday so that I can stay home and play. I am expecting a collage book in the mail and I would like to try it out.
